Episode Summary

This is part three of a three-part interview with Gino Arcaro. Gino is a former police officer, detective, educator, business owner, author, and strength and football coach. Gino has a Bachelor’s degree of Science from Empire State College New York; a Master’s degree in Education from Brock University Ontario; a Basic Recruit Diploma from Ontario Police College; a Criminal Investigation Diploma from Ontario Police College; a Homicide Investigation and Forensic Science Certificate from the Center of Forensic Science Toronto; a National Coaching Certification Program Level 3 and a College Teaching Certificate from the Ontario College Association. In this interview, Gino outlines the experiences he had teaching and revamping the police foundation program at Niagara College. This leads to the discussion for people that are interested in policing and the options in approaching this type of career, in essence how to build a resume for this line of work is further discussed. Skills and competencies required for this field are further outlined in more detail as well which are furnished with Gino’s examples of working on the force. Career change is discussed as to how Gino made the transition from policing to teaching. Being a business owner and what that is like especially coming from the public sector is explained. How writing and publishing books evolved into another facet of his career is conversed as well.
